Building Resistance From Tragedy: How Do We Stop Gun Violence?

March 8, 2018 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm UTC-5

This meeting is in Lafayette Hall room 210, 94 University place on UVM Central Campus

Another school shooting.

Another killer with white supremacist motives.

The NRA rejoices as gun sales go up.

The frequency with which Americans experience gun violence and mass shootings is unrivaled in the industrialized world. But we can’t explain this merely in terms of a Wild West “gun culture.”

While the Republicans and Democrats debate only in terms mental illness on one side and gun regulation on the other, they miss the larger context of violence in this society. Reducing gun violence requires understanding it in terms of racism, U.S. militarism, immigrant deportations, police murders, and gross wealth inequality.

Join the UVM/Burlington branch of the International Socialist Organization to discuss what is really at work in this landscape of violence and how we can build a better world.
