West Virginia Teachers Point the Way: Labor after Janus

March 7, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm UTC-6

In the face of the anti-union court case Janus V. AFSCME, public sector unions in the entire United States are facing a massive challenge. Unions representing public employees will see their budgets collapse and their influence wane. Workers will face cuts to their pay, benefits and bargaining power. This step backward points to the need for a labor movement built by and for the rank and file workers, with a fighting spirit that can challenge the neoliberal agenda of relentless cuts, as well as racism, sexism and oppression of all kinds. Pointing the the way forward are strikes like those by the Chicago Teachers Union in 2012 and West Virginia teachers beginning last week.

Join the ISO to discuss the roots of Janus, and what’s to come for the labor movement.
