Marxism, Elections, and Class Struggle

March 14, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm UTC-4

“You put the Democrats first and the Democrats put you last” – Malcolm X

Democratic rights are precious products of the class struggle, but we’re constantly forced to choose between the lesser evil of two parties competing to uphold the capitalist class. Abstaining from elections is a strategy that ignores the struggle for voting rights, but history has shown us that all of our major gains have come not from voting in the better of two bad candidates, but from organizing the working class and collective action from below.

What does a Marxist approach to elections really look like?

We’ll also be making some plans for Coalition of Immokalee Workers’s Time’s Up Wendy’s March in NYC! (labor struggles, immigrant rights, #MeToo, #TimesUp) and NYC – March For Our Lives (gun violence, gun control, #FuckTheNRA)

The meeting will be at The Graduate Center, CUNY Room 5409

All are welcome! You do not need to be a CUNY student or alumni – just bring some kind of ID for the front desk to sign in!
