No One Is Illegal Study Group

March 18, 2018 @ 1:00 pm - 2:15 pm UTC-5

Want to learn about the current state of the immigration struggle?

Join us in this 3-part reading and discussing “No One Is Illegal: Fighting Racism and State Violence on the U.S.-Mexico Border” by Justin Akers-Chacon and Mike Davis. The book is available for purchase on Haymarket Books and other book providers, and we have copies you can get at our weekly meetings on Thursdays at 7pm, same location. We will also be sharing additional material like podcasts and short videos to each session.

We will also have PDFs of some of the sections available:

Although the book focuses on the U.S.-Mexico border, the analysis presented applies to the immigrants’ struggle across borders and nationality. Professors Akers Chacón and Davis provide a in-depth analysis of the current transnational migration of working class people–predominantly from Mexico. Although the text is an attempt at providing a Marxist-analysis of class conflict as the underpinning of the current movement of bodies across the border, the authors expand to include the globalization of financial capitalism as the main cause of such transnational migration of working class people.
