UW International Women’s Day Rally & Speak Out

March 8, 2018 @ 12:30 pm UTC-6

A rally in response to the renewed call for a women’s strike, put out by activists like Angela Davis, Barbara Smith, and Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor in an article for The Guardian. Last year, organizing for International Women’s Day brought together hundreds of thousands of people around the globe.

This year, there are even more reasons to come together. Trump’s racist scapegoating of immigrants and Muslims, his war mongering, his promise to dismantle abortion rights, and his myriad attacks on working people will have dire consequences for millions of people around the world, including many students on this very campus. That doesn’t even include the struggles we face because of the reactionary leadership of the Wisconsin State Legislature, or the UW-Madison administration. But organizing together shows that we will continue to resist these attacks as a campus community, and International Women’s Day is a clear opportunity to show our collective power, harnessing the energy of the women’s marches and the #MeToo movement and connecting it to an inclusive moment on this campus.
